Percentage
In 1996, there were 65,805 collisions involving teenage drivers
in the State of Georgia. This is a 7% increase over 1995. Of
these collisions, 136 resulted in a fatality. Almost 50% of
these fatalities resulted from inexperience. The balance
involved alcohol, drugs or speeding.
- 66 were inexperience related (49%)
- 44 were speed related (32%)
- 14 were drug related (10%)
- 12 were alcohol related (9%)
In 1995, there were 469,466 crashes with
drivers of all ages. Among these, drivers 16 - 17 years old had
31,321 crashes (approximately 6.7 %) even though they only
accounted for 3.0% of the total drivers.
